Extract From Technology Tools HR Network Scotland, January 2007 Modern HR software adopts an almost 'Star Trek' approach to managing HR practices. But with a myriad of systems to choose from, installing and running the best software requires more than a little homework. ...Snowdrop Systems describes itself as a mid-market supplier of IT solutions for HR. It distributes both modular and end-to-end solutions to practitioners. The company's marketing manager, Jenny Masters, says: "Our key strength is working in partnership with our customers to deliver solutions that tick the right boxes and deliver technologies that meet their needs." Unlike some providers which may offer near NASA levels of technology, Snowdrop works with customers to identify their software requirements. She believes some systems are so sophisticated that, like a high spec mobile phone, many of the functions are not utilised. "Around 80% of our solutions are customised to some degree. We also offer a consultancy programme, advising customers on the best software solution," adds Ms Masters, "Typically, our technologies are tailored to suit organisations with around 500 employees. Other systems cater for those with 50 employees - right up to 20,000 members of staff." One organisation that has utilised Snowdrop's HR systems is The Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA). The organisation previously had little need for an IT system, holding employee records on Excel spreadsheets. However, as the organisation grew rapidly between 2003 and 2005, it needed software to manage its employee information. Based in Grantown and Ballater, it now employs over 60 members of staff. CNPA purchased a 2 user Evergreen (personnel) system from Snowdrop. Francesca Scott, HR manager for CNPA, says: "The new software has provided much quicker access to employee data. Basic, but crucial data that was previously unrecorded such as next-of-kin and emergency contact details are now readily available. Employee data is easy to amend and double-check, keeping it accurate and up-to-date. Absence monitoring has also vastly improved. We no longer rely on individuals remembering to complete absence forms."... |
